Birth Hypoxia

Birth Hypoxia - Birth Injury

Hypoxia is the medical term for lack of sufficient oxygen to the brain. Infant cerebral hypoxia, hypoxic-anoxic injury and birth hypoxia are all terms that essentially mean the baby's brain is not receiving the oxygen supply it needs to function.

From our Louisville, KY law office, Clare & Berry are here to represent families throughout central and western Kentucky whose children have suffered from medical negligence. We have decades of experience with oxygen deprivation and other birth injuries, and are willing and able to fight for full compensation.

Causes And Results Of Oxygen Deprivation

Hypoxia can be caused in several ways. In some cases, it is caused by a pinched umbilical cord or uterine rupture, resulting in an interrupted or obstructed blood supply to the baby. In other cases, hypoxia is caused by severe acidosis. This means that the fetus cannot get rid of all the carbon dioxide building up in its bloodstream and body tissues.

Birth hypoxia can result in cerebral palsy, a neurological condition that affects motor function. It can also result in seizures, fetal brain injury or death.

$450K Settlement for the Wrongful Death of an Infant

In one birth trauma case, I represented a mother who awoke one morning and recognized that she was experiencing labor pains. When she arrived at the hospital, however, the staff failed to take prompt action. She had to wait 20 to 30 minutes to reach the labor and delivery floor. Once there, it took the doctors 18 minutes to deliver the child by cesarean section. The infant was severely brain damaged and only lived five days.
